Practical Teaching Tools from Day 1
No matter what your level of experience, our yoga course is designed to joyfully combine detailed theory and philosophy with a practical, hands-on approach to yoga from your very first class. Our in-depth educational approach is fun, fascinating and full of joy.
Re-Discover the Sacred
Many students are first attracted to yoga by the love for asana (yoga postures). Our integral approach teaches you not only how to safely work with (and teach) poses, but also the subtle healing, and energetic benefits of each ancient asana learned. The journey through asana, prayayama and meditation helps us to fall in love with the true Self, to deeper understand the mind, and to set the spirit free of self-imposed limitations.
World-Class Lectures
Our course offers some of the most in-depth study into the fields of yoga history, philosophy, anatomy, physiology, Sanskrit language, ayurveda, meditation, mantra, yoga therapy, sequencing and more!
We pride ourselves in top-notch academic (as well as practical) education, with a deep, integrative understanding of both yoga theory and practice.
MODULE 1
March 2024
Module 1 covers the foundations of yogic history and philosophy. In this module you will learn the secret history of yoga, the Eight Limbs (ashtanga) taught by Patanjali, gain insight into the ancient Yoga Sutras, discover what yoga teaches us about the mind and meditation, and the healing benefits of yoga nidra. You will also begin to learn, practice and integrate into the basics of yoga posture (asana) as a modality of healing and fitness.
Module 1 consists of a combination of live weekly lectures (dates below), pre-recorded videos to watch before class, a comprehensive course manual, assignments and assessments.
MODULE 2
April 2024
Module 2 introduces you to the healing principles of ayurveda (the ancient "science of life"), yogic lifestyle, and pranayama (yogic breathing). You will learn energy anatomy (including chakras and nadis), and begin with an in-depth study of physical anatomy and physiology as they pertain to yoga. Within this module we learn how to correctly use Sanskrit (the language of the Vedas), and continue with our integrative study of the asanas.
Module 2 consists of a combination of live weekly lectures (dates below), pre-recorded videos to watch before class, a comprehensive course manual, assignments and assessments.
MODULE 3
Away Retreat - May 2024
Module 3 is where the theory modules come to life, and is the one part of the course we cannot do online due to the hands-on approach required to become a quality yoga teacher.
This is a deep-dive immersion into the practical aspects of teaching yoga. Currently we are only hosting MODULE 3 away retreat in the Western Cape, South Africa.
Module 3 is absolutely essential in the integration of becoming an ISHTA Yoga Teacher! Our students fly in each year from all around the world to experience the sacred magic of our African-inspired TTC Retreats and Immersions.
Yoga is a living, oral tradition, and it needs to be passed down directly from teacher to student. In our school there are techniques and teachings so sacred to us that we only can pass then along in the traditional "mouth to ear" manner, and can never be taught online. We continue our ancient practices, even in the modern world.
