How important is it to do the prescribed "homework" between sessions?

You get out what you put in. Healing is a journey, and requires energy, time, and input. The more you put into your progress, the more benefit you will gain.

How many sessions are required?

Life is a strange and complex journey. We don't usually get sick in a day, and it doesn't take a day to get better. The therapeutic journey can take a while, depending on the situation. Maybe a client just wants help in goal setting, or to get some insights into a personal problem... maybe the client has been the victim of a trauma, or loss of a loved one... perhaps there is abuse, addictions, or anger management... There is no magic wand! Healing can take time. You are worth the energy and investment.

I've seen you offer non-medical hypnosis - what does that entail?

Non-clinical hypnosis techniques are ancient practices that help a client go into natural states of consciousness that can be helpful in the re-wiring of certain beliefs, patterns, and behaviours. All sessions are completely client-centred.

Do you offer couples counselling?

Yes! Read more HERE.

What ages do you work with?

I prefer to work with adults and teens (16-and-older). I work with children only under specific circumstances, and either under the supervision of an existing family psychologist, or with one of the parents present.

I am on medication, is that important?

Although I cannot prescribe or diagnose, it can be helpful for me to know if you are on medically-prescribed medication. It is also important to get the approval of your medical doctor before undergoing counselling sessions.

Are sessions confidential?

Absolutely! Wellness Counsellors are ethically bound to maintain client-counsellor confidentiality. The only time a counsellor is obliged to break the confines of confidentiality are if:

*Required to do so in legal proceedings, or via court interdict

*The counsellor believes a client may be of harm to themselves or others

*It becomes necessary to consult the client's doctor/consulting psychologist. This may only be done with the written permission of the client

*Statutory duty, where the counsellor has sound reason to believe that a person is being subjected to sexual or physical abuse

What is the difference between psychology, psychiatry and counselling?

A psychologist has a master's degree in psychology and is registered with the HPCSA. A psychiatrist is a medical doctor who is able to prescribe medication for mental health related issues. A counsellor is a professional skilled helper (registered through a particular board) who is able to counsel particular issues (non-medical) within their scope of practice.
